Interest in departing town Councilwoman Melissa Turley’s seat is growing.
The deadline for applying is 5 p.m. today, and eight hopefuls already have thrown their names into contention.
Town Clerk Olivia Goodale said she expects some last-minute applicants as well.
Applicants include Stephen McDonald, Jon Stuart, Emy diGrappa, Don Frank, John Stennis, Kari Cooper, Mark Nowlin and Mike Gierau.
New council members Jim Stanford and Hailey Morton, who won their positions in November’s general election, will be sworn in at a town meeting Monday night.
They, along with re-elected Mayor Mark Barron and sitting Councilor Bob Lenz, will appoint a replacement for Turley, who was elected to a seat on the Teton County Board of Commissioners.
Town Planning Commissioner Barbara Allen also was successful in her bid for county leadership.
The town is having more difficulty finding her replacement.
The deadline for the open planning commission spot is 5 p.m. today, but only Ethan Valenstein has applied so far.
The mayor will appoint someone to the position, with the approval of council members.
