Bookings down slightly compared to last year

By Emma Breysse, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
February 14, 2013

Every week the Jackson Hole Daily looks at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s lodging barometer of bookings for the week ahead, which the chamber compiles Wednesday afternoon and posts online Thursday morning. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.

Lodging numbers for the valley this weekend are down from the same time last year but above the average over the past three years.

Valleywide, advance bookings for the coming weekend are at 79 percent. For the same weekend last year, the number was 82 percent, but the average occupancy for this weekend is 78 percent.

The lower number is the result of small dips in three out of four areas.

Outlying Jackson, Teton Village and vacation rentals all came in between 3 and 11 percent lower than where they were last year, resulting in the 4 percent dip overall.

Downtown Jackson hotels remained level compared with last year at 90 percent occupancy.

Outlying Jackson’s occupancy dipped the least, coming in at 75 percent. The same weekend last year, the area’s hotels were 77 percent full.

In Teton Village, advance bookings are at 80 percent, down from last year’s 90 percent.
