Cold, rainy weather didn’t keep die-hard antler hunters from perusing thousands of wapiti sheds at the annual Elkfest auction Saturday at Town Square. The auction brought in a record $131,400. See this week’s Jackson Hole News&Guide for more.

Lodging down slightly from last year’s level

By Emma Breysse, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
January 31, 2013

Every week the Jackson Hole Daily looks at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s lodging barometer of bookings for the week ahead, which the chamber compiles on Wednesday afternoon and posts online Thursday morning. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.

Total advance bookings for the coming weekend are down slightly across the valley from last year, but dipped significantly in only one area.

Projected occupancy rates for Sat-urday are at 58 percent, down from last year’s 62 percent.

The largest dip came in downtown Jackson, where hotels will be half full on Saturday, a 24 percent drop from the same weekend last year. That weekend, downtown Jackson’s hotels were at 66 percent occupancy.

Outlying areas of Jackson will see a 31 percent increase in occupancy, coming in at 38 percent for Saturday. Last year, those hotels were 29 percent full.

Teton Village hotels and vacation rentals both saw small upticks from last year.

In the Village, the weekend’s advance bookings will be at 77 percent, compared with 76 percent last year. Vacation rentals are at 77 percent as well, up from 68 percent last year.
