A man believed to be the one who robbed the U.S. Bank in Jackson on New Year’s Eve is behind bars, a law enforcement source said Tuesday.

Utah authorities arrested the man Tuesday night, according to the source, who has knowledge of the investigation. The confirmation was provided to the News&Guide on the condition of anonymity because the source was not authorized to speak to the press about the arrest.

Two Jackson police detectives are en route or already in Utah, the source said.

Staff at the Davis County Jail in Farmington, Utah, confirmed Tuesday night that a man wanted for bank robbery on a federal warrant is being held in their jail.

The man, 39-year-old Corey Alan Donaldson, was picked up by police in Clinton, Utah, after officers read information about him on the National Crime Information Center database, jail staff said.

Records do not show that Donaldson committed any crime in Utah, so jailers were unsure how police found him. Donaldson was booked into jail at 7:24 p.m.

Donaldson’s mug shot, as it appears on a Davis County unofficial online inmate roster, and his description are consistent with bank surveillance photos and descriptions of the U.S. Bank robber.

Police have been searching for the man for nearly a month, after he got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Calls that the bank was being robbed came through at around 12:30 p.m. Dec. 31. Radio traffic on law enforcement frequencies said the robber threatened he had wired the bank and parking lot with military explosives, but officers did not find any when they swept the site.

Security cameras at U.S. Bank showed the goateed robber was a 6- foot-2-inch white man, middle-aged and weighing around 300 pounds. The man in the unofficial mug shot does not sport a beard, but other elements of the description match.

The day after the robbery, police released photos of a car they believed was associated with the robber. The car was a gray Toyota Tundra pickup with a license plate possibly from Colorado.

Jackson police Detective Sgt. Andy Pearson, in charge of the investigation, wouldn’t confirm or deny information about the arrest Tuesday  night.
