An Idaho man was not required to pay any money to get out of jail after his ex-girlfriend accused him of forcing her to go to his house against her will.

Manuel Taurino Garcia-Santos, 32, of Victor, is charged with unlawful touching and false imprisonment.

At his initial appearance Thursday in 9th Circuit Court, Garcia-Santos pleaded not guilty to both counts.

Judge James Radda released him from jail without requiring him to post cash or a surety bond after his lawyer, Richard Mulligan, argued that he was not a threat or a flight risk.

Mulligan said he represents Garcia-Santos in his pending divorce and held up a thick file of documents from that case to prove his client has a history of keeping his court appointments.

“He has appeared for everything in the civil matter,” Mulligan said. “I have no doubt he will continue to appear in this matter.”

Teton County Deputy Prosecutor Clark Allen said he did not feel Garcia-Santos should be required to pay a bond as long as Radda ordered him to have no contact with his ex.

Radda included the no-contact order in his release conditions, and required Garcia-Santos to get a domestic viol­ence assessment from a state-certified treatment provider.

Garcia-Santos was arrested after his ex-girlfriend told police he reacted violently when she accused him of being unfaithful with still another woman.

While out on a date, the couple began arguing about whether he was cheating, according to court files. The woman went outside the restaurant to calm down. While she was outside, Garcia-Santos apparently saw her talking to a police officer, which made him angry, according to the file.

The woman later told police that Garcia-Santos grabbed her arm and forced her to get into his car. He allegedly refused to take her home, instead driving her to his house in Victor after threatening her and throwing her cellphone out the window of the car. His ex-girlfriend lives in Jackson.

In Victor, he twice forced her to stay in the car when she tried to run away, according to court files. His ex-girlfriend eventually honked the car’s horn to get attention and managed to run to the house of Garcia-Santos’ brother. The brother agreed to drive her back to Jackson, according to police.

She told police she believed Garcia-Santos intended to rape her.

Police reported that when they spoke to them, she had a bruise on her wrist and a red mark on her face. Police said that Garcia-Santos’ brother admitted he drove her home and heard the horn honking.
