A strong team performance allowed the Jackson Hole High School boys cross-country squad to overcome Cody, a rival all season, to take second place Saturday at the state meet in Douglas.
The inexperienced girls squad also showed its potential by placing all five of its scored runners in the top 25 and finishing third. The girls lost to strong teams from first-place Star Valley and second-place Cody.
The Jackson boys team had five run-ners in the top 28 to secure 86 points. Grant Cameron led the gang, crossing the finish of the 5-kilometer race in 18 minutes, 7.66 seconds and receiving allstate honors for his 10th-place finish.
Cody junior Devyn Brotherton won the race with a time of 17:13.82, but Star Valley won the state meet, edging out the Jackson boys by 29 points.
Star Valley was led by sophomore Cody Peck, who took second overall and scored 57 points.
Hailey Ricks, a senior from Star Valley High School, won the girls race with a time of 19:42.71 in a competitive field.
Sophomore Mariah Bredal led the Jackson girls, finishing 14th with a time of 21:55.17, followed immediately by senior Luna Wasson. Jackson’s other senior girl, Tashi Wangchuck, was Jackson’s fifth runner, finishing in 25th place.
