Village bookings rise, others do less well

By Mark Huffman, Jackson Hole, Wyo.
September 13, 2012

Every week the Jackson Hole Daily looks at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s lodging barometer of bookings for the week ahead, which the chamber compiles Wednesday afternoon and posts online Thursday morning. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.

Teton Village hotels and lodges are ending the summer strong, with occupancy for the coming weekend at 88 percent, up a hefty 10 percent from the same weekend last year, and up from 65 percent occupancy just one week ago.

But the village was the only category with such a strong showing. Only the Parks/Moran category was up, just 1 percent over last year, and down slightly from last week.

Two other categories showed decreases from last year at this time: Downtown Jackson bookings were down 4 percent; outlying Jackson was down 9 percent. Vacation rentals were unchanged.

Total occupancy this week in all categories is down 1 percent compared with the same weekend last year. Total occupancy this week is at 82 percent, compared to 81 percent last week.
