Cold, rainy weather didn’t keep die-hard antler hunters from perusing thousands of wapiti sheds at the annual Elkfest auction Saturday at Town Square. The auction brought in a record $131,400. See this week’s Jackson Hole News&Guide for more.

Parks, Moran booked for coming weekend

By Emma Breysse, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
September 6, 2012

Every week the Jackson Hole Daily looks at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s lodging barometer of bookings for the week ahead, which the chamber compiles on Wednesday afternoon and posts online Thursday morning. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.

Anyone who doesn’t already have a room booked for the national parks and Moran this weekend will be out of luck or camping, with lodging occupancy rates at 100 percent.

That is a 2 percent increase over the same weekend last year, when the rates were at 98 percent.

Elsewhere in the valley, occupancy rates remained the same compared to last year, or went down.

Vacation rentals in particular took a dip, falling to 84 percent occupancy from 94 percent occupancy.

Bookings in Teton Village also are down, going from last year’s 96 percent to this year’s 89 percent.

Numbers in downtown and outlying Jackson stayed the same, at 98 percent and 99 percent.

Overall occupancy went down slightly, coming in at 95 percent this year compared to last year, when it was at 97 percent.

Still, all advance bookings are up significantly over last week, when total occupancy was 81 percent.
