Cold, rainy weather didn’t keep die-hard antler hunters from perusing thousands of wapiti sheds at the annual Elkfest auction Saturday at Town Square. The auction brought in a record $131,400. See this week’s Jackson Hole News&Guide for more.

Teton Village lodging sees healthy increase

By Emma Breysse, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
August 9, 2012

Every week the Jackson Hole Daily looks at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s lodging barometer of bookings for the week ahead, which the chamber compiles on Wednesday afternoons and posts online Thursday mornings. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.

Occupancy rates for the coming weekend are up throughout the area and sharply up in Teton Village when compared to last year.

This coming weekend, advance bookings in Teton Village are at 98 percent. For the same weekend last year, they were at 50 percent, meaning Village bookings increased by 98 percent in a single year.

Most other areas saw a more modest increase. Within the town of Jackson, weekend bookings are at 91 percent, up 2 percent from last year’s 89 percent. Vacation rentals spiked to 74 percent from 65 percent, while the national parks and Moran saw a slight increase, going from 96 percent last year to 97 percent this year.

The outlying areas of Jackson saw the coming weekend’s only downturn from last year, decreasing by 11 percent. This weekend’s occupancy rate is 86 percent, as opposed to last year’s 97 percent. Outlying Jackson also saw the only decrease over last weekend, when advance bookings came in at 90 percent. Other areas are the same or slightly higher compared to last week.

Total occupancy crept up to 90 percent over last year’s 88 percent.
