Candidate filing for 3 boards starts next week

By Brielle Schaeffer, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
August 2, 2012

People who want to throw their hat in the ring for school board, hospital board or the conservation district board in the general election can do so next week.

Candidate filing for the three bodies opens Wednesday and closes Aug. 27.

There are four seats up for grabs this November in the Teton County School District No. 1 Board of Education election. Trustees Greg Dennis, Robbi Farrow, Cherie Hawley and Kate Mead are reaching the end of their four-year terms.

Candidates will vie for three open seats on the St. John’s Medical Center Board of Trustees. Dr. Bruce Hayse is finishing his first four-year term as a board member. The terms of Zach Hall and Scott Gibson will also expire; they were appointed to the board in 2011.

Two positions on the Teton Conservation District board will be open. Tom Segerstrom’s seat is up for election, as is the slot for at-large supervisor Tom Breen. These are also four-year terms.

People wishing to run in the general election as independent candidates for county offices must file a petition by Aug. 27, County Clerk Sherry Daigle said. Interested candidates must file with the Teton County Clerk’s Office.

Voter registration for the Aug. 21 primary election closes Monday. However, Wyoming allows election-day registration for qualified voters at polling places.

Residents who miss the deadline can register and vote absentee the same day at the county clerk’s office until Aug. 20. On primary election day, unregistered voters can register and vote at polling sites.
