Cold, rainy weather didn’t keep die-hard antler hunters from perusing thousands of wapiti sheds at the annual Elkfest auction Saturday at Town Square. The auction brought in a record $131,400. See this week’s Jackson Hole News&Guide for more.

Dozens vie for dollars from lodging tax board

By Kevin Huelsmann, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
June 29, 2012

Dozens of events organizers are lining up for funding from the Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Board.

Organizers of 42 events are vying for grants from the board to help support and market their happenings. Board members set aside $300,000 for the program, which offers grants that range from $1,000 up to $20,000.

The applications range from hockey and soccer tournaments to a wine tasting and live music. (For a list of applicants, see the July 4 News&Guide.)

The program is supposed to help bolster events that draw tourists to the valley in the winter and shoulder seasons. The program only is open to events that are held between Sept. 28 and Dec. 20 and between Jan. 1 and June 24.

Board members awarded more than $150,000 in grants to 22 events in the valley in January.
