Saturday bookings slip from recent numbers

By Katy Niner
June 14, 2012

Every week, the Jackson Hole Daily looks at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s lodging barometer of bookings for the week ahead, which the chamber compiles on Wednesday afternoons and posts online Thursday mornings. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.

Saturday bookings pale in comparison to years past.

The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s latest occupancy survey compares Saturday with June 18, 2011, and June 19, 2010.

As of Wednesday, 68 percent of rooms valleywide had been reserved for Saturday, a 7 percent slide from the 73 percent occupancy logged at this time last year, and a 12 percent fall from the 77 percent of 2010.

Despite the overall decline, Teton Village eclipsed years past, booking 77 percent of its rooms Saturday, a 28 percent spike from the 60 percent of rooms reserved last year.

On the flip side, the national parks and Moran logged markedly fewer advance reservations. Seventy-four percent of park rooms were booked for Saturday, 14 percent less than the 86 percent occupancy of 2011.

Downtown Jackson and vacation rentals nearly mirrored last summer’s statistics. Downtown reported a hiccup of 5 percent fewer rooms reserved, from 78 percent last year to 74 percent Saturday, while vacation rentals slipped by only 4 percent, from 52 percent in 2011 to 50 percent this weekend.
